How Crowd Beam works, and what to do when it doesn't.
The whole thing in three steps
- Tap Share and send the link to the person you are meeting.
- They open it. Their phone lights up one colour; yours has the other.
- Hold your phone high. When you see each other, tap Found them and the pairing ends.
The link opened in my browser instead of the app
That works too. The page becomes your beacon in a colour distinct from theirs. If you do have the app installed, tap Already have Crowd Beam? Open it on that page.
"This link has expired" or "This link is already in use"
Each link seats exactly two people and lives for at most six hours. Ask the other person to tap Share again and send a fresh one.
We lost connection
The pairing survives it. Leave the app open and it reconnects on its own; if it gives up, tap Try again and you keep the same colours. Airplane mode, a dead spot and a force-quit all resume the same pairing.
The nudge says "queued"
The other phone was away when you sent it. It is held for up to a minute and delivered the moment they come back.
The flashlight will not turn on
The app refuses the flashlight in Low Power Mode, when the phone is hot, or when the light is in use elsewhere, and it says which. The screen is the beacon; the flashlight is a second light.
Can I find more than one person at a time?
Not yet. One pairing at a time, on purpose: two colours are easy to tell apart at a distance and three are not.
Nothing to sign into
There are no accounts, so there is no password to reset and nothing to delete. Ending a pairing, or six hours passing, removes everything the service knew about it.
